January 24, 2025: Chase and IHG launched new limited-time sign-up bonus offers on the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card and IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card. The cards now offer increased bonuses, but Chase has been more generous with its bonuses in the recent past. Here are all of the details.

IHG One points expire after a short 12 months of inactivity. This card can be a good option if you are looking to keep your points alive and pay no annual fees.

Very similar to the business variant of the card, but usually offers a large sign-up bonus.

While this card is very similar to the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, it adds a few bonus categories relevant to business owners.

My take: Increased bonuses are good, but timing these cards is also important

If you’re looking to pick up an IHG credit card, now is a decent time, but these offers don’t match the best offers we’ve seen on these cards in the recent past. While we have no information about what Chase might offer in the future, it might be worthwhile to wait for another round of limited-time bonuses if you don’t have an immediate need for these cards.

Since the Premier and Premier Business cards give you a free night each cardmember anniversary year after your first year, the timing of your IHG card applications can be important. Both cards’ free night certificates are awarded based on the account anniversary year and expire within 12 months from date of issue.

Timing your application can be especially important if you don’t travel often. For example, if you take only one trip per year in March, getting the account in February may not be a great idea—you’ll receive your annual certificate shortly before your trip, meaning you might not be able to use it. This becomes less of an issue if you’re traveling often and have more options to use your certificates during the year.

Bottom line: Decent time to apply for personal IHG cards

Ultimately, the best time to apply for most cards is when there is a limited-time increased welcome offer available, as is currently the case with the IHG cards. You might be able to get a better bonus on these cards if you wait for the next round of limited-time offers—but you’ll likely be waiting for the better part of the year and there’s no guarantee that the offers will be bigger in the future.
