Citi Rewards+® Card welcome bonus: 20,000 bonus points with no annual fee

December 26, 2024: The Citi Rewards+® Card isn’t terribly interesting on its own, but as a companion to the other cards in the Citi ThankYou Points ecosystem, it is an essential card.

The card also offers a welcome bonus for new cardmembers. Here’s what you need to know about the best Citi Rewards+® Card welcome bonus.

Best bonus available: 20k points after $1,500 of spending in 3 months

My take: Decent bonus, essential ThankYou Points card

Last year, we saw an increased offer on the Citi Rewards+® Card, but Citi doesn’t frequently increase the welcome offer on this card. The required $1,500 spending within three months is a little steep for a bonus of this size, but this isn’t a card that you get for the welcome bonus.

Why you get this card. If you are invested in the Citi ThankYou® Points ecosystem, there’s probably not a reason to wait on this card. The points you will earn from the 10% point rebate by having this card in a combined ThankYou Points account will likely be more valuable than any marginal additional welcome bonus points.

My verdict: If you plan on redeeming Citi ThankYou points in the near future, get this card now. You’re likely to get more value from the card’s 10% Points Boost than you will from waiting for a better bonus.

Eligibility: Can you get this bonus?

In the past few years, Citi simplified the rules for earning sign-up bonuses across all of its ThankYou® Points cards. Generally, you can earn a bonus on a card again if you have not received a bonus on the same product in the previous 48 months.

Here’s the language directly from Citi’s bonus terms and conditions:

Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a Citi Rewards+® account in the past 48 months.

Be aware that the 48 month restriction applies based on the date you received the bonus rather than the date you applied for the card. If you might have had this card at any point within the past five years or so, it might be worthwhile to take a peek at your account history before you apply to be sure you’ll be eligible to receive a bonus.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Citi Rewards+® Card a good card?

The Citi Rewards+® Card plays a role as a part of a larger ThankYou® Points wallet, but it isn’t a great card to have on its own. The card’s benefits are largely nonexistent and the card doesn’t earn compelling rewards on spending. What it will get you is a 10% point bonus when you redeem your ThankYou points, on up to 100,000 points redeemed each year. When you combine your ThankYou Rewards accounts, you can earn up to 10,000 per year from redemptions you make with other cards.

Does the Citi Rewards+® Card have an extended warranty?

Yes. Citi recently added extended warranties to most of its credit cards.
