American Express frequently updates the welcome bonus on The Platinum Card®, making finding the best bonus on this card a game of whack-a-mole. In researching another article today, I found a new welcome offer on The Platinum Card® from American Express pop up:
Earn 150,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $8,000 on purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.
This is the best current welcome offer I know about on this card.
How I found the 150,000 point Platinum welcome offer
I found the current best 150,000 point Platinum Card® welcome offer by going to the Amex Platinum Card® landing page directly in an incognito window in Chrome on a Mac. Here’s the link: https://card.americanexpress.com/d/platinum-card/
Of course, going to this link directly won’t guarantee that you will be able to see that offer—Amex varies which offer it shows by a bunch of factors that no one outside Amex will be able to tell you with certainty. If you don’t see the offer, try private browsing/incognito windows on different web browsers or different computers. Sometimes, I won’t be able to get something to come up in Chrome, but it comes up in Safari almost every time.
Can’t find it? Here’s how to find the best Amex bonuses
Amex changes its welcome bonuses frequently. By the time you read this, the bonus may be gone, or it might not come up on the Amex website on your first try. H
- Try Incognito or Private Browsing modes across different web browsers and computers. Often, you’ll be able to find better offers if Amex can’t see the cookies on your computer. (Clearing your browsing history might also work.)
- Get a referral link from a friend. Some offers are available only through friend referral links. If you have a friend with the card you want, see if they can generate a referral link with a better offer. They’ll also earn points when you get the card.
- Look at the Amex offers panel. Sometimes Amex will target you with a better offer. This is especially common with business cards, as Amex has offered “expand your membership” offers in the past.
- Direct mail. Amex still sends offers via mail. If you get a mailer from Amex for a card offer, it can be worth it to open it up and check it against the best public offers.
- Calling Amex. Amex agents sometimes have access to better offers than are published on the website.
