Our take: Bigger bonuses, but devalued cards.
Many of these bonuses (but not all!) match or exceed the best bonuses we’ve seen on these cards in quite a while. But before you apply, you should know about the changes that United has made to these cards. All of the cards now carry higher annual fees and Chase has added a bunch of coupon-book credits to all of these cards.
While it is technically possible to get more value out of the cards than before, you’ll find yourself chasing after a bunch of small monthly statement and United Travel Bank credits. Unless you’re willing to chase the credits, all of the cards just became more expensive.
Since the cards are now more expensive, I’d expect to see bigger bonuses on these cards, but only time will tell. We don’t yet know what the “standard” bonus will be on these cards. Check out our guide to the United cards to see if the cards make sense for you after the changes. If they do, now is probably a decent time to get one, but I’d say that there’s better-than-even odds that we’ll see similar bonuses on these cards in the future.
Other ways to get United miles through welcome bonuses
Chase Ultimate Rewards® is a transfer partner of United Mileage Plus. If you’re collecting Mileage Plus miles, you might also be interested in Ultimate Rewards welcome bonuses. Ultimate Rewards become transferable to United Mileage Plus if you hold a premium Ultimate Rewards credit card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Bottom line: Refreshed cards, higher annual fees, bigger bonuses
The United credit card offers have been increased alongside a refresh of the entire United credit card lineup. If the cards make sense for you, now is probably a decent time to pick one up.
