Complete guide to Amex Platinum credits

February 25, 2025: The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express both offer a dizzying number of statement credits that can provide incredible value if you use them. In this guide, we go over every Amex Platinum statement credit so that you can make the most of your Platinum cards.

Overview: Which cards offer which credits?

Because of the sheer number of credits offered on the American Express Platinum cards, it can be difficult to keep track of which cards offer which credits. Here’s a quick reference table showing which credits are offered on which cards.

The Platinum Card®The Business Platinum Card®
Adobe Creative Solutions Credit
Airline Fee Credit
CLEAR® Plus Credit
Dell Credits
Digital Entertainment Credit
Equinox Credit
Hilton Credits
Hotel Credit
Indeed Credit
Saks Fifth Avenue Credit
Uber Cash
Walmart+ Credit
Wireless Telephone Service Credit

Amex offers several versions of The Platinum Card® in partnership with some other banks. All personal versions of The Platinum card offer the same credits.

If you subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud, you can get up to $150 annually as a statement credit when you enroll and charge your subscription to your Business Platinum card.

Eligible CardsBusiness Platinum Card®

Credit end dateThis credit is set to expire on 6/30/25.

Airline Fee Credit

Both the personal and small business variants of the Amex Platinum offer an Airline Fee Credit which awards up to $200 per calendar year in statement credits for incidental fees charged by your selected airline. You must enroll and select your preferred airline prior to charging an airline incidental fee to receive the credit.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Business Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $200 per calendar year.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must select your preferred airline on the Amex website or in the mobile app.
Eligible chargesAirline incidental charges, like checked bag fees and seat assignment fees.
Per the terms and conditions, airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees. However, in practice, many of these types of charges have historically received credits.
Qualifying airlinesAlaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines

How to maximize the Airline Fee Credit

The obvious way to maximize your airline fee credit it to select your airline and charge your incidentals with that airline to your card, at least until you’ve exhausted your credit for the year. But what if you don’t usually pay for airline incidentals?

While the terms and conditions of the credit are pretty unambiguous about charges for airfare and award tickets not being eligible, in practice, certain airfares and award ticket fees have triggered the credit on certain airlines:

  • Airfare, usually under $50-$100 has been known to trigger the credit on Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, and Hawaiian.
  • Using the card to pay an additional fare when using a flight credit or gift card on Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, and Southwest has triggered credits in the past.
  • Paying fees on award tickets generally works.

While Amex has historically awarded an airline fee credit for the charges above, Amex could change this at any time, in my reading of the Terms and Conditions. If you want to see if something still works, I’d recommend checking recent FlyerTarlk posts and on Reddit for user data points.

Additionally, while you can change your selected airline only once per year, in January, on the Amex website or app, in practice, customer service has been able to change peoples’ preferred airline during other times of the year.

CLEAR® Plus Credit

Pay for your CLEAR® Plus membership with your Amex Platinum card and you’ll receive up to $199 in credits per calendar year. CLEAR Plus memberships renew each year automatically unless canceled.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Business Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $199 per calendar year.
Enrollment Required? No. Enrollment through Amex is not required.
Eligible chargesCLEAR® Plus membership fees.
Only up to $199 in statement credits will be issued. If taxes and fees cause the total charge for a membership to be greater than $199, you will only receive a $199 statement credit.

How to maximize the CLEAR® Plus Credit

In many cases, you can get a discount on CLEAR® Plus membership. Delta SkyMiles members can get a discount on membership fees and people with Medallion status can get a larger discount. Other airlines may have similar discounts for their elite members. If you have more than one person paying for CLEAR® Plus membership, and you’re eligible for a discount, you should be able to get a second person’s membership fee at least partially covered if you did not use the entire $199 credit with your first membership charge.

Dell Credits

When you make U.S. purchases at Dell Technologies, you’ll receive up to $200 back semi-annually. Currently, this benefit is slated to end on 6/30/2025.

Eligible CardsBusiness Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $200 semi-annually
Up to $200 from January-June and another $200 from July-December, each calendar year.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must enroll through the Amex website or mobile app prior to making your purchase.
Credit end dateCurrently, the Dell credit is scheduled to end on 6/30/2025, which means you’ll only get one credit in 2025. In the past, Dell has announced an end date and extended the credit to future years.
Eligible chargesPurchases made directly with Dell Technologies or at dell.com in the U.S. and U.S. Territories where Dell Technologies is the merchant of record.
Purchases made in the U.S., but shipped to addresses outside the U.S. may not qualify.

How to maximize the Dell Credit

In recent years, it has become particularly difficult to maximize the Dell Credit, thanks to the fact that Dell no longer sells a wide variety of items on its website. If you’re looking to make a Dell purchase anyway then the credit is easy to use, but outside of that… look for lower-priced accessories or use the credit as an opportunity to upgrade part of your setup, like getting a new monitor.

Nick from Frequent Miler recently shared the tip that you can use multiple cards to pay at Dell.com. Apparently you can use up to three cards to pay, which could be useful if you have multiple Business Platinum cards.

Digital Entertainment Credit

The Amex Digital Entertainment credit offers up to $20 in statement credits each month when you use your card for purchases on select digital entertainment providers.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $20 monthly. (Up to $240 annually.)
Enrollment Required?Yes. Activate in the benefits section of the Amex website or app.
Eligible chargesU.S. purchases charged directly by: Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal.

How to maximize the Digital Entertainment Credit

Maximizing the Digital Entertainment credit is relatively simple. Be sure to enroll and then set up your recurring monthly subscription charges go to to your card offering the credit. How to best use the credit will depend on which subscriptions you pay for, but here are some tips:

  • For The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, there is little reason not to use your eligible Amex card. We don’t know of other cards offering more compelling credits for these subscriptions.
  • If you subscribe to Peacock, we’ve seen both Amex Offers and Chase Offers with cash back bonuses on Peacock. Maybe check for these before using your Amex Platinum for these subscriptions—you might be able to save more money or reserve your credit for other digital entertainment purchases. Also consider that a Walmart+ membership covers a basic Peacock subscription.
  • Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu subscribers who also subscribe to other services, consider putting these services on a Blue Cash Everyday® Card or Blue Cash Preferred® Card. Both of these cards offer a credit for Disney+ subscriptions, allowing you to get a credit and reserve your Digital Entertainment Credit for other subscriptions.

Equinox credit

Get up to $300 in credits each year for an Equinox membership or an Equinox+ subscription. Equinox memberships and subscriptions are subject to auto-renewal.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $300 in total credits per calendar year.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must validate your membership at https://platinum.equinox.com/ prior to receiving a credit.
Additional termsOnly valid for Equinox memberships that can be used within the United States.

Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® credit

Receive a single statement credit of up to $120, once every four years, for Global Entry or up to $85, once every 4.5 years, for TSA PreCheck enrollment fees.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Business Platinum Card®
Amount of creditGlobal Entry: Single credit, up to $120, once every four years.
or
TSA PreCheck: Single credit, up to $85, once every 4.5 years.
Enrollment Required? No. Amex card enrollment is not required, but you must use your eligible Amex card to pay for your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee.
Eligible chargesGlobal Entry application fees.
TSA PreCheck application fees when appplying through a TSA official enrollment provider.
Other trusted traveler programs like NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST, and Privium are not eligible for the credit.

How to maximize the credit

You’ll get only one credit, even if you sign up for TSA PreCheck and later sign up for Global Entry. Since Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, the obvious value maximization is to sign up for Global Entry if it is convenient.

In many cases, you can now do your Global Entry interview on arrival to the United States, so if you have an international trip coming up, applying before that trip is a smart call.

Hilton Credits

Receive up to $50 per quarter for purchases made directly with a property in the Hilton portfolio. You must register with Hilton for Business prior to receiving credits.

Eligible CardsBusiness Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $50 quarterly.
Total of up to $200 annually.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must enroll both with Amex and with Hilton. Enrollment in the Hilton for Business program to be eligible for the credit.
Eligible chargesHotel bookings and incidental charges made directly with a property in the Hilton portfolio.

Hotel Credit

Get up to $200 per year in statement credits when you use your Platinum Card to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $200 per calendar year.
Enrollment Required?No
Additional termsBookings must be eligible prepaid bookings.
Bookings at The Hotel Collection must be a minimum of two nights.
Credit is awarded based on when the prepaid hotel charge posts to your account.

How to maximize your Hotel Credit

While you might expect Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection to be a collection of overpriced hotels, we’ve found that many hotels to be quite reasonable when you consider the value of the included perks. We’ve especially found this within The Hotel Collection and especially internationally.

If you’re getting near the end of the year, remember that your credit is awarded based on the date your prepaid charge posts to your account. You could, for example, book and pay for a prepaid stay on December 20th, for travel in March of the following year. You’d receive a hotel credit based on your charge posting date, rather than your stay date.

Indeed Credit

If you make purchases with Indeed with your Business Platinum card, you can get up to $90 back per quarter as statement credits.

Eligible CardsBusiness Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $90 quarterly.
Total of up to $360 annually.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must enroll through the American Express website or mobile app prior to making your purchases.
Eligible chargesPurchases made directly with Indeed.com

Saks Fifth Avenue Credit

Receive up to $50 in credits semi-annually for purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue or saks.com.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $50 semi-annually
Up to $50 from January-June and another $50 from July-December, each calendar year.
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must enroll through the American Express website or mobile app prior to making your purchases.
Eligible chargesPurchases at Saks Fifth Avenue store locations in the U.S. and online at saks.com.
Not valid on Saks Fifth Avenue Gift Cards, or purchases at Saks OFF 5TH Avenue stores or at saksoff5th.com.

How to maximize the Saks Fifth Avenue Credit

If you regularly buy things from Saks Fifth Avenue, then simply use your Platinum card to make at least one of those purchases every half-year. But if you don’t regularly buy things from Saks Fifth Avenue, it can be hard to maximize the credit—you won’t find many useful things under $50 at Saks, and shipping charges can often eat up much of the credit for less-expensive items.

Gift cards are excluded from the terms and conditions, but our readers have reported getting the credit for gift cards purchased in a physical Saks store. Keep in mind that you won’t get the credit for Saks OFF 5TH Avenue stores.

Uber Cash

Receive Uber Cash in your Uber account each month, which can be used for Uber and Uber Eats purchases within the United States. Uber cash expires at the end of the month if unused—there is no possibility to roll over Uber Cash.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of credit$15/month, and an additional $20 (total $35) in December.
Enrollment Required? You must add your eligible card as a payment method in your Uber account.
Additional termsYou must select an American Express card as your payment method in order to use the credit and toggle Uber Cash to on for the purchase. The Amex card you use does not have to be the card granting you the credit.
Qualifying purchasesUber, Uber Eats, and Postmates purchases in the United States.

How to maximize Uber Cash

The biggest thing to remember about Uber Cash is that it expires. You won’t get anywhere near the face value of $200/year out of your Uber Cash if you let it expire.

  • Don’t forget that Uber Cash can be used for fast-food pick-up orders made through the Uber Eats app. I find this very useful at the end of the month. If I haven’t taken an Uber ride during the month, I’ll usually use the credit to pay for one or two Chipotle to-go orders.
  • Use expiring credits like Uber Cash first, before choosing to earn extra points on another card.
  • Always compare prices among rideshare apps. I’ve personally found cases when Uber is priced significantly higher than Lyft or local ridesharing apps. You’re not getting a deal if your Uber ride is $15 more expensive than the same ride through Lyft.

Walmart+ Credit

When you use your Platinum card to pay for a monthly Walmart+ membership, you can get a statement credit for up to $12.95, plus applicable taxes, which should cover the entire cost of a standard Walmart+ membership. Membership is subject to auto-renewal.

Eligible CardsThe Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $12.95 (plus applicable taxes) each month.
Enrollment Required? No enrollment from Amex is required, but you must sign up for a Walmart+ membership, subject to auto-renewal.
Eligible chargesWalmart+ monthly membership.
Walmart+ annual memberships will not receive monthly credits.
Purchases of any membership Plus Ups (for example, Walmart InHome) and purchases of Walmart Business+ memberships are not eligible for this benefit.

How to maximize Walmart+

Walmart+ can actually be quite valuable—the service is a viable alternative to Amazon Prime for most people, most of the time. Many household consumables that are bulky and difficult to ship can actually be cheaper with Walmart than you’ll find them on Amazon.

Also, don’t neglect that your Walmart+ membership also includes a Paramout+ Essential plan. You have to jump through some hoops like separate registration, but if this benefit can replace paying for a subscription service, that’s real money equivalent to cash in your pocket.

Wireless Telephone Service Credit

Receive up to a $10 statement credit each month when you charge your monthly wireless bill from a U.S. service provider to your Business Platinum Card.

Eligible CardsBusiness Platinum Card®
Amount of creditUp to $10/month. (Up to $120 annually.)
Enrollment Required?Yes. You must enroll through the American Express website or mobile app prior to making your purchases.
Qualifying purchasesPurchases for monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the United States and U.S. Territories.
Hardware purchases, reseller purchases, Google Fi, and bundled wireless service providers are excluded.

How to maximize the Wireless Telephone Service Credit

Maximizing the Wireless Telephone Service Credit is much harder than it should be. Since many providers require payment from a debit card or checking account to get a discount, you might struggle to use the credit in a way that isn’t offset by loss of an auto-pay discount. With T-Mobile, you can make partial payments toward your bill and still maintain your discount for paying with a debit card or checking account. This option isn’t available with Verizon.

Bottom line: Credits can add a lot of value, but are a pain to use

Although they can sometimes be a pain to use, the statement credits offered on various Amex cards can absolutely add to the total value proposition of an American Express Platinum card. Hopefully our guide has made understanding how you could be getting the most out of your card a bit easier.
